Go Bags…
Buy or Make Your Own?
Let’s get this out of the way up front, We SELL Pre-packed Go- Bags.. That has no effect on our advice here. This is about YOUR SURVIVAL, and how badly BlackCock Survival wants to help with that.
There are two schools of thought when it comes to having a pre-packed bag ready for when the shit hits the fan. Some believe buying one that you can toss in the trunk of your vehicle is good enough. We sell several of these type bags all of which are of excellent quality. None of them in our opinion are good enough without some adjustments.
Why? Well everyone is different. Everyone has different needs and expectations, and none of us leaves from the same place to go to the same place. Until you actually bug-out you will not know where you will bug out to. We cover how to select your bug out places in a future blog.
The size bag you will need for this will also vary. The longer you will be gone, the bigger the bag. If you do not think you will be returning home at some point being as fully packed as possible is a great idea.
Emergency Survival Kits of various sizes can be found in our store. This one has over 50 different high quality survival items and will definitely serve you very well when the going gets tough. It is for very short term trouble however.
It is missing the items that will keep you comfortable for longer periods. Tools, Food, and clothing that will make a long term solution is all missing.
The Family Road Kit Is a longer term option with food water and shelter provision. It is missing some basic tools you will find very handy if things really go bad, and a more permanent solution is called for.
The Emergency Preparedness Package Has food provisions for four people in excess of three days. Shelter, water purification, and First Aid packs that will come in handy for longer emergencies. The items in this bag are too numerous to mention here but they still do not meet our recommendation for Go-Bag.
What else do you need? That is up to you and we are going to now cover some survival principles that you will do well remembering.
Shelter: Protecting yourself from the elements is really your first priority (as long as you can breathe). A human can only survive a few minutes without air. That same human can only survive a few hours without shelter. Depending on the temperature even in the mildest climates exposure to the elements will kill you very quickly.
Water: A human being can only survive a short period without adequate hydration. 3 Days is on the far end of human survival without water. Providing a safe, clean source of water is a HUGE win in the game of survivor.
Food: You have a much longer period of time (30 days ) to figure out food sources. Whether you decide to hunt and fish, or gather plant sources or both, time is on your side as long as you are familiar with edible wildlife in your escape area.
You might notice we did not discuss signalling. I am assuming that if you bugged out it was to get away from the masses, not alert them to your presence.
We will also discuss First Aid in a later blog post coming soon. Those skills are very valuable to have both to you and others just in case you need to ingratiate yourself.
